What is Tarsonis?

Tarsonis is the former capital world of the Terran Confederacy and one of the most important political locations in StarCraft history. Its fall marks the collapse of the old Confederate order and the rise of Arcturus Mengsk as the dominant terran ruler in the Koprulu Sector.

What happened on Tarsonis?

During the original StarCraft conflict, Mengsk brings the Sons of Korhal to the Confederate capital and uses psi emitters to attract the zerg.

The plan succeeds militarily: the zerg attack Tarsonis and Confederate power collapses.

But the victory also exposes Mengsk’s willingness to sacrifice civilians and allies for political goals.

Why is Sarah Kerrigan central to Tarsonis?

Sarah Kerrigan participates in Mengsk’s campaign but is left behind when the zerg overrun her position. Jim Raynor argues that she should be rescued, but Mengsk refuses.

The zerg capture Kerrigan, eventually transforming her into the Queen of Blades.

That single decision drives multiple later wars and turns Raynor permanently against Mengsk.

How did Tarsonis lead to the Dominion?

With the Confederacy shattered, Mengsk presents himself as the leader capable of restoring order. He uses the power vacuum to establish the Terran Dominion.

For that reason, Tarsonis is not just a battlefield. It is the hinge between two terran political eras.
