Who were the Sons of Korhal?

The Sons of Korhal were the movement led by Arcturus Mengsk before the creation of the Terran Dominion. Their name comes from Korhal, a world whose destruction becomes central to Mengsk’s political story.

Blizzard’s original StarCraft manual and later story summaries both connect the group directly to Mengsk’s rise.

Why does Korhal matter to the group?

Korhal’s destruction under the old Terran Confederacy gives Mengsk a powerful cause and a lasting symbol. The Sons of Korhal use that history to rally support against the existing government.

How did the Sons of Korhal lead into the Dominion?

During the first StarCraft conflict, the Confederacy collapses while Mengsk’s influence grows. After Tarsonis falls, he establishes the Terran Dominion and becomes Emperor.

The Dominion therefore grows out of the organization, leadership, and political momentum Mengsk built through the Sons of Korhal.

Why does this faction matter to Dominion history?

The group explains how Mengsk moves from opposition leader to ruler. It also shows why the Dominion cannot be understood only as a military faction; its identity is rooted in Korhal, propaganda, political memory, and the collapse of the previous terran government.

For the wider sequence, continue with the Dominion timeline and Raynor’s Raiders.
