What are the major Dominion milestones?

The Terran Dominion only makes sense when its history is connected to the events that came before it. This page is a compact chronology rather than a mission-by-mission retelling.

For the full organization overview, start with Terran Dominion. For the franchise-wide sequence, use StarCraft story order.

Before the Dominion: Korhal and rebellion

Korhal rebels against the Terran Confederacy. The Confederacy responds with nuclear devastation, an atrocity that becomes central to Arcturus Mengsk and the creation of the Sons of Korhal.

StarCraft: the Confederacy falls

During the first StarCraft conflict, Mengsk exploits the alien crisis and uses psi-emitter technology to draw the zerg to Tarsonis. The Confederacy collapses, and Mengsk replaces it with the Terran Dominion.

His abandonment of Sarah Kerrigan on Tarsonis creates one of the most important consequences in the entire franchise.

Brood War: survival under pressure

The United Earth Directorate invades the Koprulu Sector and attacks the Dominion. Mengsk temporarily cooperates with former enemies against the new threat, while the Dominion loses and regains strategic ground amid the larger conflict around Kerrigan and the zerg.

Wings of Liberty: Raynor versus Mengsk

By StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Mengsk has rebuilt the Dominion and remains a dominant terran political power. Raynor’s Raiders oppose his regime while Valerian Mengsk becomes increasingly important to the wider conflict.

Heart of the Swarm: the end of Arcturus

Kerrigan rebuilds her forces and eventually attacks Korhal. Arcturus Mengsk is killed, ending his reign and opening the way for Valerian Mengsk to lead the Dominion.

After Arcturus: reform and legacy

Later official publishing material describes Valerian pursuing reforms while the Dominion continues to live with the political and military legacy of his father.

See Korhal and Augustgrad for the places most directly associated with the Dominion’s center of power.
