What is Char?

Char is a major zerg hive world and one of the most strategically important planets in StarCraft. It repeatedly draws terran and protoss forces because events on Char affect control of the zerg Swarm itself.

For a Dominion-focused history, Char matters because both Arcturus Mengsk and the later Terran Dominion become involved in campaigns connected to the planet.

What happened to Kerrigan on Char?

After Sarah Kerrigan is abandoned on Tarsonis, the zerg take her to Char. There, the Overmind transforms her into the infested Queen of Blades.

That transformation creates one of Mengsk’s most dangerous future enemies and reshapes every major faction in the sector.

What did the UED do on Char?

During the Brood War, the UED expedition attacks Char and succeeds in subjugating a developing Overmind. For a brief period, the UED gains control over part of the zerg Swarm.

Kerrigan later destroys that arrangement by rebuilding her power, manipulating temporary allies, and eliminating the Overmind that the UED controlled.

Why does the Dominion return to Char?

Years later, Dominion forces are strong enough to mount a major invasion against the zerg on Char. Blizzard’s developer commentary notes that the Dominion had years to rebuild fleets and improve its anti-zerg capabilities after the Brood War.

That later campaign becomes part of the plan involving Jim Raynor, Valerian Mengsk, and the Keystone intended to reverse Kerrigan’s infestation.

Why is Char useful as a wiki hub?

Char connects multiple eras that otherwise feel separate:

• Kerrigan’s transformation;
• the Brood War and UED occupation;
• Dominion military rebuilding;
• the later campaign to de-infest Kerrigan.

That makes it a natural cross-link between the Dominion timeline, the StarCraft story order, and faction pages across the site.
