What is a Terran Ghost?

A Ghost is an elite psionic terran operative trained for missions that demand stealth, precision, and specialized battlefield control. Ghosts appear across StarCraft as snipers, infiltrators, intelligence agents, and nuclear-strike spotters.

Within the Terran Dominion, Ghosts sit at the intersection of military power and covert state security.

What makes Ghosts different from normal infantry?

A Marine is designed for conventional frontline combat. A Ghost is designed to solve narrower, higher-value problems: bypass defenses, eliminate important targets, gather intelligence, disable enemy capabilities, or direct strategic weapons.

That difference is why Ghosts are tied closely to the Dominion Ghost Program rather than simply being another mass infantry branch.

What abilities are associated with Ghosts?

The exact ability set depends on the game mode and era, but Ghost identity consistently includes several themes:

  • cloaking or stealth;
  • long-range precision fire;
  • psionic capability;
  • electronic or energy disruption;
  • tactical nuclear strikes;
  • infiltration and sabotage.

Modern multiplayer balance values change over time, so this wiki keeps current numbers separate from evergreen lore.

How does Nova represent the Ghost role?

Nova Terra is the most prominent Dominion Ghost. Blizzard’s Nova Covert Ops material emphasizes stealth, assassination, vehicle operations, intelligence gathering, customizable equipment, and specialized unit upgrades.

Nova’s story also shows that Ghost work is political. Her missions are tied to the Defenders of Man, internal Dominion security, memory manipulation, and competing loyalties.

Are all Dominion Ghosts like Nova?

No. Nova is an exceptional named operative, not a template for every Ghost. Blizzard also uses other specialized Ghost-like units and co-op interpretations, such as the Emperor’s Shadow within Arcturus Mengsk’s Royal Guard.

For the broader institution, see Dominion Ghosts and the Dominion Armed Forces.
