Why is Korhal important?

Korhal is one of the most important worlds in the political history of the Terran Dominion. Its destruction under the Terran Confederacy becomes the defining grievance behind Arcturus Mengsk and the Sons of Korhal.

What happened to Korhal under the Confederacy?

Blizzard’s story material describes Korhal rebelling against Confederate rule. The Confederacy responds with nuclear bombardment, devastating the world and creating a lasting symbol of Confederate brutality.

That event transforms Korhal from a rebellious colony into the political memory around which Mengsk builds a much larger movement.

How did Korhal become the Dominion’s heartland?

After Mengsk topples the Confederacy and establishes the Dominion, Korhal is rebuilt and becomes closely associated with the regime’s center of power. Its importance is both practical and symbolic: the world demonstrates Mengsk’s victory over the government that destroyed it.

Augustgrad is the capital city most directly associated with Dominion government on Korhal.

What happens on Korhal in Heart of the Swarm?

Korhal becomes the setting for the climactic confrontation between Kerrigan and Arcturus Mengsk. The campaign ends with Arcturus’s death, after which Valerian Mengsk becomes Emperor.

That makes Korhal central to both the birth and the political transition of the Dominion.

Where does Korhal fit in the larger story?

Use the Dominion timeline for chronology and the StarCraft story order for the broader franchise context.
