Who is Valerian Mengsk?

Valerian Mengsk is the son of Arcturus Mengsk and later Emperor of the Terran Dominion. His role in StarCraft II is important because he operates differently from his father even while inheriting the institutions Arcturus created.

What did Valerian do in Wings of Liberty?

Valerian works with Jim Raynor during the campaign to collect xel’naga artifacts and use the Keystone against Sarah Kerrigan. Blizzard’s story summary places him directly inside the coalition that eventually strips Kerrigan of the zerg corruption at the end of Wings of Liberty.

That cooperation also puts Valerian in open tension with his father’s priorities.

How did Valerian become Emperor?

Arcturus is killed during Heart of the Swarm when Kerrigan’s forces attack Korhal. Valerian survives the conflict and becomes the Dominion’s next Emperor.
